About Oddball Comedy and Curiosity Fest

Last night I attended the first ever show of the Oddball Comedy and Curiosity Fest. A comedy tour backed by Funny or Die. The tour hosted by Jeff Ross featured Dave Chappelle and Flight of the Conchords as well as Demetri Martin, Hannibal Buress, Kristen Schaal, and Al Madrigal. It was a lot of good fun.

In the blaring August heat in Austin, some 13-15 thousand people gathered to watch the show. The seats were packed and the lawn was full. The Circuit of Americas track was well stocked with beer, both domestic and imported, and enough water to fill at least one Olympic sized swimming pool.

There was a second stage featuring local comedians for entertainment before the show hosted by Brody Stevens. But most people were drawn in by the headliners.

The show started at 7 and except for two brief intermissions, it ran until just after 11. The show kicked off in the daylight with Al Madrigal. With his jokes about yelp and shrimp, it set the tone nicely. Each act came on stage and delivered solid material. For a $35 lawn ticket, I wasn’t disappointed. Sure, I would have loved if some people had a little more stage time, but I never felt jipped.

If the Oddball tour is coming to your area and you like going to comedy shows, I would definitely suggest checking it out. Here are the dates.
