Let’s be honest, there’s excitement buzzing in the air for Marvel’s new rendition of Daredevil. Gone is the well meaning, but not so good Daredevil movie starring Ben Affleck. Now we have a Daredevil that seems to be taking the grit of the comic book character to heart.
Check out the trailer.
Marvel has been at the TV game for a little while now. Slowly, they are coming to find their rhythm. Admittedly, they’ve run into some bumps when it comes to what works and what doesn’t. In the early days of Agents of SHIELD, everything felt too light and fluffy (and ultimately, meaningless). That was eschewed for a darker tone in season two. In fact, Agents of SHIELD has grown into one of the more satisfying shows on TV, once you get through the slog. Agent Carter has proved a better attempt as it jumped right into the action. But being on a broadcast network (ABC) it still faces certain limitations. Daredevil will be the first show that is able to really get as dark as it needs to.
The dark tone that most of the Marvel shows have adopted have been extremely beneficial to the shows, but a stark contrast to their movie brethren. The move to Netflix will allow Daredevil, and the following shows in the deal, take on content in a different way. This will add to more variety in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. So far, the trailer for Daredevil seems unafraid to go for this more dangerous and darker tone. It’ll be interesting to see how our venture into Hell’s Kitchen fares when the show drops all at once on April 10th, 2015.
